Lesley Universityの学生さんたちと交流会を実施しました！

1月9日（火）に、Lesley Universityの学生さん、教員の皆さんが来学され、本学学生との交流会を実施しました。

本学協定校であるLesley Universityは、アメリカ マサチューセッツ州に所在する私立大学です。2015年以来、トラベルコースとして日本を訪問され、毎年交流を行ってきました。
コロナウイルス感染拡大の影響により、オンラインでの開催を続けていましたが、今回実に約5年ぶりに対面で交流会を開催することができました。

Lesley Universityのトラベルコースは、日本人と文化的・芸術的産物との関係を観察することを通して、生涯にわたる日本人のアイデンティティの構築を探求することを目的とされています。
今年のテーマは、「食」ということで、本学GETコース生全員が企画から運営すべてを担当しました。

学生が考えたコンセプトは「国籍を超え、大阪本場のたこ焼きパーティーをする」ということ。大阪ならではの食文化に触れ、楽しんでもらうことを目標に掲げました。また、今回の交流会においては、留学生バディや有志の学生たちも協力してくれました。
事前打ち合わせを重ね、どうにか迎えた当日。
GETコース1年生たちは、素敵なウェルカムボードを作成してくれました。

Lesley University久保先生、本学孫飛舟留学支援委員長による挨拶の後、両大学学生が英語で自己紹介を行いました。
GETコース生が英語でたこ焼きプレゼンテーションを実施し、たこ焼きパーティーに向けて皆のボルテージを上げてくれました。

その後6チーム分かれてたこ焼き作り。Lesley Universityの学生さん全員へ「たこ焼きピック」をプレゼントし、大阪スタイルのリアルなたこ焼きパーティーを経験してもらいました。
Lesley Universityの学生さんたちは、たこ焼きをひっくり返すのが非常に上手で、全員美味しいたこ焼きを堪能することができたようです。

楽しい時間はあっという間に過ぎ、Lesley University久保先生、谷岡留学支援副委員長による挨拶をもって交流会は閉会しました。
最後はプレゼントをお渡ししてウェルカムボードと共に集合写真撮影。お見送りする最後の瞬間まで別れを惜しみました。

今回の交流を通じ、あの場にいた全員が改めて人と会える大切さを実感したのではないでしょうか。

どこにも行けないもどかしさと先の見えない不安に押しつぶされそうだった数年間があったからこそ、今回の交流会では、一緒に過ごせる一瞬一瞬を精一杯楽しみたいという気持ちが溢れたように感じます。
交流会前は、英語でのコミュニケーションに不安を抱える学生もいましたが、そんな不安は微塵も感じないほど笑いの絶えない会となりました。

「英語」というだけで苦手意識を覚える日本人が少なくありませんが、英語をはじめ言語は思いを伝えるツールにすぎません。
今回の交流を通じて、もっと英語を勉強しようと思う学生が多くいることを願っています。

A cultural exchange event was held with students from Lesley University!

On Tuesday, January 9, students and faculty members from Lesley University
visited our campus and had an international exchange meeting with our
students.

Lesley University, which is one of our partner universities is a private University located in Massachusetts in the United States.
Since 2015, the students have visited Japan as part of the Travel Course and have had annual exchanges.
Due to the spread of COVID 19, we were finally able to hold a face-to-face exchange meeting for the first time in about five years,
although we had been holding the event online.

Lesley University's travel course is designed to explore the lifelong construction of Japanese identity through the observation
of the relationship between the Japanese people and their cultural and artistic products.

This year's theme of the course is "food". To welcome our friends from the States, all of our GET course students took charge of
everything from planning to organization. The concept of this year's event was to "transcend nationalities and have an authentic
Osaka takoyaki party. The goal was to let our friends experience and enjoy Osaka's unique food culture.

After many preliminary meetings, the day of the event arrived.
First year students of GET course made this wonderful welcome board.

Following opening remarks by Dr. Kubo of Lesley University and Dr. Son, Chairperson of the Study Abroad Support Committee of
our university, students from both universities introduced themselves in English.
After that, GET course students gave a presentation on takoyaki in English, setting the stage for the party.

Finally, the party began.
Afterwards, participants were divided into 6 groups to make takoyaki, and all Lesley University students were handed takoyaki
picks to experience a genuine Osaka-style takoyaki party. They were very good at flipping takoyaki balls, and all enjoyed the
moment.

The good times go by too fast! The exchange meeting was closed with closing remarks by Dr. Kubo of Lesley University and
Mr. Tanioka, Vice-Chairman of the Study Abroad Support Committee...

Through this program, we all realized once again that how valuable it is to communicate with people in person.
Having spent several years feeling crushed by the frustration of not being able to go anywhere and the uncertainty of not being
able to see the future, I feel that this exchange meeting overflowed with the desire to enjoy every moment we could together as
much as we could.

Before the exchange meeting, some students were nervous about communicating in English.
However, they did not feel a trace of anxiety as they had a lot of fun and laughter.

Many Japanese feel uncomfortable just hearing the word "English."
However, English and other languages are just a means of conveying our thoughts and feelings.
We hope that many students will be inspired to study English more through this meeting.
